"to scatter" (probably from a root, skarp---, signifying "to cut asunder," akin to skorpios, "a scorpion"), is used in Matthew 12:30; Luke 11:23; John 10:12; John 16:32; in the RV of 2 Corinthians 9:9, "scattered abroad" (AV, "he hath dispersed abroad"), of one who liberally dispenses benefits.
